Thoughts about Tags

tags 01-23-11

I was thinking about my flickr tags again. The tag scan just popped into my top 150 a few days ago. I have no idea what dropped out of my top 150 to make room for it. I am expecting Holga, 35mm, and 365/2011 will be in the top 150 by the end of the year. It will be interesting to see what else gets to the top of the list.

January 31, 2011: You Can't Call it the Superbowl Unless You Pay

Can't say Super Bowl

This is an advertisement for Big Game XLV. They cannot put the word Super Bowl on the sign unless they pay the NFL. It is always something that catches my eye.

January 31, 2004: Bike Sign

Bike Sign

I have always loved this bike sign. I have never seen another one like this.

January 29: The Love of my life

Tomorrow is Kate's birthday. Today we had some birthday fun. We went to Brunch at Orson, went to the Golden Gate Dog Show, and went to see The King's Speech. It was a great day.

January 27: The Dish Rack

I have officially run out of ideas for photos for my project. At least I did not do an arms length photo. That will have to wait for another time.

January 27, 2010: Don't Feed the Birds

January 27: Please Do Not Feed The Birds

I love any sign that use Pac-Man pellets. It happens much more often then you expect.

January 26: Not Top Chef

There was no new Top Chef tonight. I also did not eat like Top Chef was cooking tonight.

January 26, 2009: Blue Sky on the Way Home

blue sky on the way home

There are days where the sky is so amazing that I just cannot capture it. Maybe next time I will just need to pull over and not try to take the photo from my car.

January 25, 2011: Dustbin of Cameras

January 25: Dustbin of Cameras

I went to a camera store today and I saw this on a table in front of the store. They were a bunch of used 35mm point and shoot cameras. Looking at the cameras, some of them had zoom and auto focus features. I looked at the cameras, but I did not pick one up. Maybe I should go back and get one.

January 25, 2008: Hat Trix Fan

January 25: Hatrx

I love seeing vanity plates. They are like an Easter Egg in everyday life. That is why I take so many photos of them.

January 23, 2011: Target Photo Machine

January 23: Picking up Photos @target

I went to Target to pick up some film. I usually do not get prints. I just get the film developed and scanned. It is a lot cheaper this way, at least for 35mm. That is why I have been focusing on my 35mm toy cameras. I might need to break out a regular 35mm camera.

January 23, 2006: Pink Mickey

Pink Mickey

I know if I took this photo today I would do it in a much different way. It would be better to get down on the same level as the shelf.

January 22, 2011: Ungroomed Palm Tree

January 22: Ungroomed Palm Tree

I love seeing ungroomed palm trees. I wonder what would happen to Palm Trees in that Life After People way. I always want to describe ungroomed palm trees as hairy looking.

January 22, 2010: Omelet for Breakfast

yum

I can never take enough photos of breakfast.

January 21, 2011: No Posting

DSCN1593

I first saw these signs two years ago. They were freshly put up on every traffic light in the city of San Mateo. Now the signs look old and like someone has tried to take them down by hand. I liked them before, now I love them. I wonder who tried to take them down unsuccessfully.

I have no idea what I was thinking about with my hair here. It is kind of silly.

January 20: Silhouette

I have been walking buy this sculpture for the past year trying to figure out a good shot and today I finally saw it. I saw the photo I wanted to take. Between a good idea and a little cropping, I finally got the photo I wanted.

From the Air:

There is not much to like about flying out of airport before sunrise. I am happy I am not flying today.

Flickr Goal from 2010

One of my goals for 2010 was to average 2000 views a day. Here is what I wrote in my blog.

Get a total of 3,542,374 flickr views: To get this many views I need to average 2000 views a day for the whole year. There was a good four month period that I got over 2000 views every day. I know I have little control over this. I need to go to Comic Con to get this done. More costume photos might also be a good idea. I know that more promotion using Facebook and Flickr is important. We will see if I can do this.

My goal was to get a total of 730,000 views. I ended up getting 1,319,266 views for my photostream. I got 184,253 on one day because I ended up on the flickr blog. I had 9 days over 10,000 views, 28 days over 5,000 views, 123 days over 3,000 views, 297 days over 2,000 views. My lowest view day was 1260.

I passed the big milestone of 4,000,000 total views.

January 19, 2011: Lunch with a Friend

Friend in Town

I only took one photo today. It was just this photo. I had lunch with Michael and a couple of other friends. We talked about work, family and fertility treatment. It was a great lunch.

The Commute 1

This was my commute for years. Seeing this photo really takes me back.

January 18, 2011: Gas Pump

Gas up

Yeah, it only took to day 18 for me to run out of energy. I need to start planning out what photos I want to take. I just did not have the energy today. I know this will not be the worst photo I will take this year.

Flickr Projects from 2010: Flickr People

SFlickr January:

From my Blog last year: Add people to all my Flickr Photos: A while ago Flickr added a people feature, so you can add other Flickr users to your photos. I wanted to make sure I did this for all my photos. I added the tag needsflickrpeople too all the photos I posted before this feature was added. At this moment I have 9,245 photos with this tag. I want to make that number zero by the end of the year. I know that is a lot of photos to review in the next year, but I think I can do it.

I was not able to add flickr people to all my photos. Last year it as a total of 9,245 people. Now it is 5,891 photos. It would be great if I could get this number down to zero. I just do not see myself doing it 2011. I just hope to get it down below 4000. If you know any of the people in my photos, go ahead and let me know.

January 18, 2009: Sanborn Park

Tables out our future wedding site

This was the site of our wedding. We went there two months before the wedding to take photos. We needed them to give instructions to a few of the vendors.

Into the Fog

The fog was amazing today. Fog is so hard to photographic. It is just hard to capture

January 17, 2007: Andalusia, Alabama

Alabama

Back in 2007 I took a work trip to Andalusia, Alabama. We had a call center there. I remember thinking a lot of the buildings were really nice, but the town seemed kind of empty. I thought it would be a great place to live if you were a homebody. I don't think I would want to live there. I doubt I am ever going back there.

January 16, 2011: Los Gatos Brewing Co.

House Made bratwurst

I am trying to eat at new restaurants this year. I know it is easy to fall into a rut going out to eat. Kate and I went to the Los Gatos Brewing Co. for lunch today. We watched a little of the Pats-Jets game and have a really good lunch.

January 16, 2008: Watching TV

January16: Watching TV

This is one of the worst Project 365 photos I ever took. It was lazy and I did not have a lot of inspiration.

January 15, 2011: Peter Via his Nikon D-80

Nikon D-80

Yesterday I took a photo of Peter using his Nikon D-80. It was a pretty nice camera. It did not take long to see how it is better then my Nikon D-50. I thought about buying one a while ago, but it was not enough of an upgrade from my D-50. If I could find one for cheap it might be worth getting now.

150th tag

Roy's Station

I wondered how many photos it would take for the tag 2011 to show up in my list of 150 tags. It took 158 photos for this to happen. It was more then I expected. I wonder how many it will take by next year.

January 14, 2011: Window Patterns

Windows

I was walking down the street and the way the light hit this building, it made me think of other photos I have seen recently. There was a Flickr Blog post about patterns.

January 13, 2011: Taking Photos

How I have been spending my time this year

I saw someone else do this photo recently. I wanted to do it after I saw it. I have the feeling I am going to be stealing lots of ideas this year. I need to find some way to take a photo everyday.

January 12, 2011: San Jose Olympic History

San Jose Mural

This mural has been on this wall for a while now. San Jose has a fair amount of Olympic history with athletes like Kristi Yamaguchi and Bruce Jenner. The 1968 Olympics Black Power salute is the moment that defines the Olympics in San Jose. It is an icon of San Jose.

January 14, 2006: Richard Ford

Richard Ford

The Sportswriter is my favorite book of all time. I just love the book. I used to have a signed copy, but I no longer know where that is. I think I gave it to someone to read.

January 13, 2008: More Cafe Photos

January 13: OVC

All I can say it look at yesterday's Today In the Past post. It seems like a same stuff, different year. I already took one of these photos.

January 11, 2011: the Analog Delay

Flag on the Sidewalk

If I want to use my camera for the photo of the day, I will have to wait for the film to be developed some time. I do not always get the shot done in time to have it developed the same day. I guess I will have to deal with it if I want to use my toy cameras for this project.

January 12, 2007: The Empty Chair

January 12: Empty Chairs

This is the point in the year where I run through my first set of photo ideas. I get all these ideas and want to put them right out there. That is why I would take a photo like this. I want to take pictures of things I just come across. I think it says something about my photo a day project.

January 10, 2011: Wet Window

Wet Window

I am not very happy with this photo. It was one of the worst from this roll on my Diana F+. I wanted to get it developed the same day I took the picture. I have taken some really good Photos with my Diana F+. I really like the photos at 10 meters or more.

January 10, 2006: Driving into the Fog

January 10: The Fog Ahead

I wanted to get a photo of how it looked to drive into the fog. This picture really does not show that. At best you need to look at the end of this photo to see the fog. You can only see it if you look really hard.

I have taken a lot of photos while I am driving. That might be because I live in California and I drive a lot. I seem to always to be behind the wheel. Of course I want to share that experence.

January 9, 2011: Japantown Farmers Market

Farmers Market

I went down to the Japantown farmers market today. After the end of the Eagles game, going to the Farmers Market was the highlight of my day. Not that many things are in season. The grapes I got were kind of tasteless. Baseball season and the spring harvest are not far away.

January 9, 2010: This Place is Bugged

This Place is Bugged

I love this sign. I have no idea what it from, what era. I just love the idea.
